No dia 17 de Maio de 2006, o criador de Neon Genesis Evangelion fundou o Studio Khara. Baseado no grego χαρα, que significa “alegria”. Em Agosto do mesmo ano, começaram o recrutamento de pessoal para em 2007 lançar o primeiro filme da série Rebuild of Evangelion.
O estúdio também contribuiu com filmes do Studio Ghibli como Ponyo, From Up on Poppy Hill, e The Wind Rises, assim como Wolf Children e Madoka Magica: Rebellion. Ajudaram também na série de curtas Japan Animator Expo.
Pelo Twitter o estúdio agradeceu todo o suporte dado e prometeu continuar a crescer na próxima década.
O logotipo em homenagem ao 10º aniversário foi desenvolvido pelo designer de mecha de Evangelion, Ikuto Yamashita.

On May 17th, 2006, Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno founded Studio Khara (based on Greek χαρα, “joy”). In August, they began recruiting and on September 1, 2007 they launched the Rebuild of Evangelion anime movie series.
They also contributed to Studio Ghibli movies including Ponyo, From Up on Poppy Hill, and The Wind Rises, as well as Wolf Children and Madoka Magica: Rebellion. They also helped present the Japan Animator Expo series of shorts.
The studio’s Twitter thanked for their support and promises to continue to grow over the next decade. With this, they unveiled an anniversary logo by Evangelion mecha designer Ikuto Yamashita.
